RED HOT READING Program
On October 6, JPI launched a school wide reading program to promote
literacy. The students track their daily reading and parents sign each
entry. At the end of the month, they tally up all the reading minutes to
qualify for in-class and assembly prizes. Grades 1-3 must read a minimum
of 250 minutes and Gr. 4-6 need 375 minutes. For the month of October,
the student body from Gr. 1 – 6 read a total of 80,057 minutes.
Here is the breakdown per class. Please note that class size and level
goals are different. The ultimate year end goal is 750 000 min
in order to have a school wide BEACH PARTY at the end of
June! November tracking sheets are due November 29. Check the
thermometer in the library of the progress!
READ-IN WEEK 2013
Read-In week was such a huge success! John Paul I was honoured
to have so many amazing readers volunteer their time. Special thanks to
Cheryl Shinkaruk - Phys. Ed. Consultant, John Tidswell - Social Studies
Consultant, Robert Jong - ITC consultant, Genevieve Kelemen, Magda
Tundak - International
Languages Consultant, Sandy Talarico - Religion Consultant, Mark Huculak
- Phys. Ed. Consultant, Darrel Bliss - Deputy Fire Chief, Cst. Monique
Ninassi, and Cst. Rose Lees for coming in and reading to our students.
It is such a joy to see the students becoming so excited about reading.
Read-In Week was a great way to help kick off the new Red Hot Reading
This year, John Paul I School will be having a Christmas concert and a
Spring concert. The Christmas concert will be held on the evening of
Tuesday December 17 at 7:00pm. The performers of this concert will be
the students from Gr. 4B, 4/5A, 4/5C, 6A and 6B, taught by Mrs. McKay.
The Spring concert will be for the students from 100 Voices, all
Kindergarten classes, Gr 1/2A, Gr 1B, 1/2C, Gr 2B, Gr 3B and Gr. 3/4A.
This will give the younger students more time to prepare. The exact date
will be announced later.
All students are asked to use their assigned doors in the morning, at
breaks and after school. We ask that parents wait for their
child/children at the exit doors and not at the door of the classroom.
Waiting away from the classroom will also help as we
promote independence and self-sufficiency in our students. The reason is
that when parents are visiting with each other, or just waiting in the
corridor, students are distracted when the doors are open and
precious instructional time is lost.
